Dracula - Dara De Staic

Mina and Johnathan Harker (Fionn O'Neill)
Under the direction of Beehive's Malcolm George and Wendela Rosenberg Polak, Pobalscoil Corca Dhuibne transition year students deliver a show with a level of professionalism seldom witnessed in the tradition of the 'school play'.
The script is an original adaptation by Kieran Murphy with additions by Beehive writer, Mike Venner and co-director, Malcolm George. The succession of short scenes, facilitated by clever set design, period costume, eclectic music and live sound effects, become like chapters in a good book - the audience in eager anticipation of the next instalment. All the brilliant elements of Stoker's novel - charm, seduction, blood and fear - are served up sharp and comic-strip style in good performances that are too numerous to list.
The show is a thoroughly entertaining, dark comic success that had me laughing and wanting more - not just of this play - but of Beehive's brand of professional entertainment, and the unique feeling that only live theatre can create.
"Dracula" by Pobalscoil Corca Dhuibne and Beehive Theatre Company is back by popular demand for one night only, Friday June 6th, at The Studio, Cúilín, Dingle. Not to be missed!
